About Me
An artist, filmmaker, animator, and director originally from Brazil and now based in Miami, I transitioned from painting to animation, crafting hand-drawn images before digitally animating them with 2D and 3D software. My films have been showcased at prestigious festivals, including the Berlin International Art Film Festival (2021), the London Short Film Festival (2022), and the Miami Short Film Festival (2023/2024). Notable works such as Light, South of Fifth, Erosion, and Bonswa Mesye O have received awards for Best Short Film and Best Short Animation at the Global Shorts Film Festival and the Emerald Peacock Film Festival.
Recently, I directed The Kitchin, a stop-motion animation created in collaboration with the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, which was recognized as Miami-Dade’s first community-made stop-motion project having Miami Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava attending the event, this community-made short film also won the Best Animation Film award at the Subculture Film Festival.
In the same year, my daughter, Harvard student Sophia Cabral, an architect and designer, and I collaborated on an installation in Vizcaya Museum’s historic kitchen as part of the annual Contemporary Art Project (CAP) under the theme “Kitchen is the Heart of the Home.” This exhibit, featuring screens and copper structures, opened on November 1 to an audience of around 400 attendees. Running from November 2023 to May 2024, it became Vizcaya’s most successful and well-attended solo show to date, according to museum staff.
Understanding that the future of the arts lies in experimental animation and technology, I use my expertise in both to create animations that collaborate locally and elevate our communities. I believe I can contribute to the growth of the field of animation arts in Miami and inspire young animators to work on their best pieces while being part of our community.
